Slam Duncan's Children's Charities began in Roanoke, Virginia in 1995  with a bicycle drive.  Enlisting the help of J-93.5 FM, where he was working as a DJ, Slam was suspended above a shopping center in a camper over a long weekend.  He hoped to raise enough donations to purchase 93 bicycles, but an enthusiastic community generated enough for 620 bikes.  Over the next four years, the bike drive, named "Bikes or Bust", raised enough donations to purchase  6524 brand new  bicycles for kids in the Roanoke Valley area.  In 1999, Slam decided it was time to evolve into a more comprehensive program and Slam Duncan's Children's Charities was born!
