"Angels helping Angels"

Can you believe it ... Christmas is almost here!!!  Boy, where has all the time gone this year.  Our last annual event of the year, the 2006 "Angles Helping Angels," event is scheduled for Sunday night, December 10 at the Wal Mart in Roanoke.  We hope to be able to purchase presents for 50-60 angels provided to us by the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.  If you would like to make a donation for the event this year, please see the info at the bottom of our HOME page... you can mail in your check, or you can send us a donation over PayPal, whichever is easiest for you.  Be sure to check back just after the event for the photos... isn't is GREAT to SEE what your DONATIONS do!!  Again, THANK YOU for all you do to help keep the charity afloat, and may you and yours have a BLESSED holiday season. -- "Slam" Duncan

The kids each get to choose an angel off the tree and then go out into the store and shop for that child. Each angel is for a boy or girl and has the sizes and things that child wants. Our Angels then bring the packages back to us and we wrap them for the kids.

We feel like this would be a way for the kids to help and at the same time feel the joy of helping another child.  For more information on this year's program, contact Linda

WOW! What an event this year! Here are some of the 144 packages our ANGELS delivered to the Salvation Army as a result of this year's "Angels Helping Angels." A BIG THANKS to all of our "Angles" and our Volunteers for making this year's event the BIGGEST ONE to date!!!

Special Thanksgiving Message from Slam:

I just wanted to wish you all the best this holiday season and to THANK YOU for everything that you've done for the kids. Again this year, we are looking forward to providing Christmas presents to a BUNCH of kids with our annual "Angels Helping Angels" program scheduled for Sunday, December 10 this year.

Also, many of you have asked about my family in the wake of Granny's passing earlier this year. I can tell you that we ALL miss here very much, but are looking forward to getting togther at the holidays to remember some of her favorite stories.

This leaf was the result of an idea here at work that someone came up with to make a Thanksgiving tree and everyone would be given one leaf to write on it what they are THANKFUL for this Thanksgiving.

May God continue to bless us all.

Your friend -

"Slam" Duncan

It is with great sorrow that I am posting the announcement that Granny Duncan has passed away.

Lois "Granny" Evelyn Duncan

October 23, 1914 - February 6, 2006

Below is a poem that Debbie read at the service....
It echoes  what Granny herself would have said
_________

Don’t Grieve for Me for Now I’m Free
I’m Following the Path God Laid You See
I Took His Hand when I Heard Him Call,
I Turned My Back and Left It All
I Could Not Stay Another Day,
To Laugh, To Love, to Work or Play,
Tasks Left Undone Must Stay That Way,
I Found My Peace at Close of Day
If My Parting has Left a Void,
Then Fill It with Remembered Joy
A Friendship Shared,
A Laugh, A Kiss,
Oh Yes, These Things I’ll Surely Miss!
But Be Not Burdened with Times of Sorrow
I Wish You Sunshine for Tomorrow
My Life’s been Full, I Savored Much,
Good Friends, Good Times, a Loved Ones’ Touch
Perhaps My Time Seemed All Too Brief
Don’t Lengthen it Now with Undue Grief…
 LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS AND
 “PEACE TO THEE”
 GOD WANTED ME NOW…
HE SET ME FREE

In Memory of "Granny" Duncan

"This was the last picture that we took of Granny.  It's was taken on Christmas Day ... and if I can brag a little ... she sure didn't look like she was 91!!!  She will forever live on in my heart and the ones that she touched, whether in person or over the radio airwaves."

Love you with all my 'arts - Billy "Slam" Duncan

Granny LOVED to get cards, notes and email from  "HER DRIVERS"

Camp Out For Kids - 2006

Slam Duncan  broadcast live on Classic Country 104.9 The Bull from the Wal Mart at 4210 Franklin Rd in Roanoke, VA on Friday, May 12 from 3pm - 7pm, and then again on Saturday, May 13 from 9am - 12 noon.  This year's event is dedicated to Slam's Granny, Lois Duncan, who passed away in February.  It was because of his Granny & Grandpa that Slam was able to enjoy his very first week of Camp Roanoke back in 1972!
Our goal is to send 15 kids to camp, therefore we  need to raise a total of $4750 dollars.

If you cannot stop by the broadcast and would like to help send a kid to camp, mail your donation, in any amount, to SDCC /Camp   P O Box13004  Roanoke, VA. 24030

Last year 17 Roanoke area kids spent a week at  Camp Roanoke
and had fun making a lifetime of memories!  Help us BEAT our goal and send even more kids in 2006!!!
